Mixwit is a Hit for Creating Mixtapes
Those of a certain age will be able to think back with a nostalgic glaze over their eyes and have fond memories making a mixtape. Spending hours with your vinyl collection and perhaps sneaking the odd track from siblings’ records in order to make the perfect cassette tape for the chosen genre, theme or mood.
Mixtapes were popular in the days when ’syncing’ meant pressing the play and record buttons a couple of nanoseconds before the single or LP began. Now you can relive those days (sort of) and create your own mixtape on the web using a wonderfully simple site named Mixwit.com.
You may be thinking, “SO WHAT?” or “WHAT’S THE POINT?”
Well, there is nothing wrong with a little nostalgia and with the help of Mixwit it is even easier to share your carefully planned mixes with friends, family or that girl in the Sixth Form you fancy!
Step 1
From the homepage of mixwit.com click on the ‘make a mix’ link. Search for the desired track name or artist. Drag the tracks over to the right.
Step 2
Customise the way your mixtape looks. In this case I went for a rather fetching black, it seemed appropriate.
Step 3
I really do not need to explain – do I?
The Result
Overall mixwit.com is a great website for sharing your musical tastes. The site make it very easy to share your ‘tapes’ on social sites like Facebook, MySpace and Bebo or publish them to your blog or website.
Mixwit is a great idea executed using a simple, uncluttered design and an easy to use interface. I am not sure about the fish-in-a-bucket logo though. It could be that I am missing some subtle ironic humour.
To make the whole mixtape more reminiscent of that suffered back in the day I would like to see a time limit of 30 or 45 minutes per virtual side and the ability to fade out tracks when ‘tape’ is running out.
Try it – it’s fun.
